Why study Theatre Studies at A Level?
Theatre studies is a practical course, which allows you to study text and revolutionary theatre practitioners. You will be given the opportunity to investigate and specialise in different acting methods and or directing, costume design, make-up, stage design, masks, lighting and/or sound. Not only is it a fantastic start to a career in Acting, Directing, Stage Management, Arts Administration, Technical Support, Design or even Teaching, it is great for building confidence and co-operation skills and can complement a range of other subjects.

Course overview
Theatre studies is predominantly a practical course. Students learn by acting/directing and creating live theatre for audiences. There is also opportunities to visit theatres and see professional productions for analysis.
Theatre studies students will explore theatre history; study the contrasting theatrical approaches of Stanislavski, Brecht and Steven Berkoff. Students prepare two set texts for a written exam and perform one original, devised piece and three scripted extracts for the performance exam.

Students studying Theatre will:
Have a chance to work collaboratively to organise group events.
Explore issues in ‘The Expression of Human Existence’.
Investigate different aspects of Theatre Form, Style and Genre

This course is a fantastic introduction to further and higher education in Performing Arts and a start to a career in the performing arts industry as a performer, director/choreographer, administrator, technician and more. It is great for building confidence, communication and co-operation skills and can complement a range of other subjects, including Media, Art, Fashion, Photography.
