Why study your subject here at A level?
NCFE Level 3 Certificate Uniformed Public Services (601/8791/8)
NCFE Public Services Level 3 is the equivalent to one A Level. Public Services will be run by the PE department who have produced outstanding results consistently at Level 3 being in the top 1% Nationally for Post 16 qualifications. For example last year all students achieved either a Distinction* or Distinction grade, which is the equivalent of an A*/A grade. This course has lots of variety with practical units as well as coursework research projects. There are 6 units (4 mandatory units and two optional units). The focus of the course is to enhance students’ employability, so all units are directly relevant to real-life work situations and developing those key skills such as team work, communication, problem solving and leadership. The Units studied are all coursework based and include:
Unit 1: Prepare for a career in a chosen uniformed service
Unit 2: Develop aspects of physical fitness for entry to the uniformed services
Unit 3: Develop leadership skills
Unit 4: Equality, diversity and inclusion
Unit 15: Sports coaching (optional)
Unit 23: Volunteering in the uniformed services (optional)
Unit 16: Skills for land-based outdoor and adventurous activities (optional)
Unit 17: Skills for water-based outdoor and adventurous activities (optional)
All units are marked individually as either a Pass, Merit or Distinction and all have the following UCAS points attached to them for entry to university

Students will learn through a range of different strategies including practical lessons, independent study, group and team work, coaching and leading others.

All the units are listed above, but the course provides content that matches some aspects of our PE courses, along with practical activities such as developing coaching skills and planning team events to demonstrate leadership and communication skills.
Focus on the popular exciting aspects of the course
The students will participate in an Outdoor activity either at Rockley Park or Moors Valley, they will plan, lead and organise an event, focusing on fitness criteria of the uniformed services. The course is all coursework based.
What skills will the students develop during the 2 years?
Communication skills, leadership, critical thinking, confidence, ability to coach and instruct also including problem solving.
