Why study BTEC Level 3 in Creative Digital Media Production?
The content of the qualification relates directly to the skills and understanding needed for further study in creative digital media production and has been developed in consultation with higher education. Over four units, learners gain a broad understanding of the subject and learn the skills to produce short film sequences. They develop their ability to analyse and deconstruct media images and representations. They learn the communication and planning skills needed to work in teams through vocational media projects.

Students studying BTEC Level 3 in Creative Digital Media Production will:

  • Have a chance to work individually and in a team to produce several short films.
  • All media expresses messages through representations. These shape perceptions and beliefs about what is valued and undervalued in society. Interrogating media representations through a critical framework will expose underlying values inherent in those representations and lead to an understanding of how audiences can resist preferred readings and negotiate their own meanings.
  • Investigate the production process through creating pre-production material for a short film that students then produce.
  • Apply knowledge in responding to a commission from a real client. In the past, these have been Sustrans and the Moors Valley Park Run team who have commissioned promotional material for their companies.

Progression routes and future careers

  • Transferable skills of interpreting and producing media products, including analysis, comparison, critical thinking and debate, evaluation, decision-making and media production skills.
  • By studying this qualification learners develop their communication skills as well as the ability to work collaboratively. They develop their knowledge of digital processes and software through practical projects which would give them an advantage if applying for entry level roles in marketing such as a marketing assistant, media sales as well as working as publishing assistants, updating websites and hosting content.
  • Previous students have gone on to University to study Film Production, Journalism, and Media Studies courses all around the country.
