Course Highlights
All Fine Art students will visit the world-renowned National Gallery which is home to one of the great collections of Western Art. The work on display will be used as a starting point to the Yr13 coursework project.

Why study Fine Art at A Level?
Studying Fine Art opens a doorway into the endless exploration of yourself and the world around us, visualising personal ideas in variety of 2D, 3D and lens based outcomes. Developing a contextual understanding of historical and contemporary creative practitioners, will enhance the students own creative practice which will grow in unison with their practical confidence.
Creative thinking and problem solving are universal skills that empower students to have confidence in their own, unique, ideas and will benefit any pathway students follow in life.

Course overview

• Central to our learning philosophy is the tutorial process of in-depth discussion between student and teacher, where creative concepts are discussed and targets set. Practical workshops play a key role in extending confidence in a range of key skills that feed in to the holistic progression of personal ideas.
• Students will complete two components over the course of their A Level studies. Component 1 has the general title of Personal Investigation and comprises three projects over 18 months and then Component 2, the externally set exam paper towards the end of Yr13.
• The range of material experimentation is aimed at equipping students with the confidence to tackle in depth, conceptually rigorous, personal ideas, in a variety of mediums, from painting, drawing, printmaking to photographic, installation and video final outcomes.
• As well as confidence in using a range of materials, students will develop the conceptual understanding and contextual knowledge to produce thought provoking, unique, personal outcomes.

Students studying Fine Art will:

• Have a chance to explore a range of personal ideas.
• Explore issues in multiple techniques and processes.
• Investigate different aspects of historical and contemporary Fine Art practice.
• Apply knowledge to developing sophisticated, personal ideas that empower students to produce unique outcomes.

• Via our pre-degree Foundation course, students have gone on to many of the most prestigious destinations in the country, from Fine Art at Central St. Martins and Chelsea School of Art, to Architecture at Brighton and Cardiff Universities, to Photography at London College of Communication to name but a few.
